Role and functions of diplomatic and consular mission


Under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961 and the 1963 Convention on Consular Relations, the functions assigned to diplomatic missions and consular are varied and revolve around the tasks of representation, protection, negotiation, information, promotion and those consular.


Representation function:

The Embassy represents the State of Senegal, in all its components, Turkey. It serves as a bridge between the two countries and their institutions. She participates in various public activities organized by the host country.


Protection function:

It is for the diplomatic and consular mission to protect the interests of Senegal and one of its nationals who are in its jurisdiction.


Negotiation function:

It is one of the oldest functions assigned to the diplomatic mission. The negotiations are to make contacts in which the parties examine the mutual intentions. They can be oral or written form.


Information function:

Is to learn the conditions and the evolution of events and to report to his country.
The Diplomatic Mission is examining all aspects of the internal life of the receiving State, international policy towards third countries and continually reviews the development of political, economic, commercial, cultural, etc.. between the two states.
The execution of this task is done in a lawful manner in compliance with laws and regulations of the host country.


Promotion function:

  It promotes the best relations and create a friendly atmosphere between states. The diplomatic mission contributes to the development of international cooperation, working to strengthen cooperation between the receiving State and the sending State.


Consular functions:

  They are to protect the interests of Senegal and its nationals, to deliver them paperwork,  travel document and visas or appropriate documents to foreigners based on the court, helping and assisting nationals of Senegal.
